Short, because there's little to say.

The app

Orbit has no account, no analytics, no crash reporting and no server of its own. Your projects, chats and settings stay on your Mac.

It goes online for these, and only these:

  • Updates. Once a day it reads a small file from GitHub Releases to see if there's a newer version, and downloads it from there.
  • Catalogs and what you install from them. The lists of agents, language servers and extensions, and the things you install, come from where they're published: the ACP registry, Mason's registry on GitHub, Zed's extension catalog. Once a day it checks them for updates to what you installed (Settings → General → Keep Up to Date turns that off).
  • Grammars. The first time a file of a language opens, its tree-sitter grammar is downloaded from its repository on GitHub and built on your Mac.
  • Things you ask for. Git's pull and push, pull requests, pages you open in the preview.
  • Agents. The agents you run are their makers' CLIs. They send your prompts and the code they read to their providers, exactly as they would in a terminal, under your account and that provider's terms.
